The most annoying part of parenting a tiny human is not the actual parenting part… stay with me here.
It’s about finding good boys bedroom ideas! There, I said it. If you are the parent of a boy child, you will
agree that the shops are covered in everything girly and the boys are completely left out.
The girls have the cutest outfits and the boys have.. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Plus they have more floor space. It’s not just
clothes, it’s also room decor. I think in the long term it destroys their maturity and stunts their emotional development.
See, I have this theory (and I am happy to test this with my 4-year-old son), that if we want gentlemen in this world we have
to start with our sons from a young age. Yes, that’s right.
I am not parenting a boy, I am parenting a gentleman. So, I treat
him like one.
I want my son to think for himself, be brave, stand out from the crowd and not worry about fitting in and having
the same as someone else. I want him to be emotionally adept, mentally strong and yet, subtle, supportive and kind.
I want to foster his imagination, his curiosity and his ability to question the world.
Boys bedrooms need to smart, flexible and tough. Thomas and his friends are great in the playroom but you can keep HIS room dapper.
Material Choices
Some great material choices are solid timber, metal and tough upholstery. You will definately pay more for solid
timber furniture like beds but, you will be able to resell at a good price because there will be hardly any (if any) damage to it.
Plus, a classic style can last a good decade. If you are getting an upholstered bed, make sure the fabric is easily cleanable.
Cheap bed $300
Upgrade $500-800
Quality $900-1200
Premium $1500 +
Chest of Drawers
If you have a great wardrobe, you might not even need a chest of drawers. If you still need it, make sure you can secure it to the wall
during those toddler years or make sure it will not tip over when the drawers are open. Drawers are being made much cheaper in the retail stores
and the quality is lacking even though the prices are still high. I have seen many MDF drawers with stapled fronts and 10mm drawer construction.
I am not saying don’t buy it, but don’t expect it to last forever or keep very well. Always check the construction with the staff or read the labels.
Decorate A Boys Room
This one, you need to think outside the box. Sometimes Kmart and Target have great ‘cheap’ copies of the high-end store product lines. I often go ‘treasure hunting’ there before
I go anywhere else. Wooden and vintage toys always look great in a boys bedroom. Bunting is on the way out but still cute for nurseries. Try using game items like vintage racquets, skateboards (plain decks at Spotlight), and model cars for decoration. Plane mobiles, star charts, road signs and world maps are also a favourite of mine. Once you have some fun elements, bring in
the soft materials such as canvas floor cushions, bean bags, geometric bedding and knitted throws. Patterns like plaid, check and stripe are classic!
Wall Art
Scrolling through the art shops, there are a lot of Batman, superhero type slogans. If you push past that and think and think of your little boy as a gentleman, you will find a lot more
inspiring art. It could be motivational, landscape or abstract. If you are at a loss, abstract shapes work really well in boys bedrooms, like crosses, chevrons and word art.
Blackliststore.com.au and leoandbella.com.au have a great range of boys art.
If you need help putting a boys bedroom together, this is what I love to do! Send me a message to get started. Boys deserve good boys spaces too.
